When I started showing Mr. Larson photos of boutonnieres to choose from he was not impressed. He felt that a lot of the options were overly girly... but to be fair, it is a flower that a man wears, right? We chose feathers because were a more offbeat option than roses. They matched our theme and were easy to make in the jewel tone palette we were going for. At first glance, it seemed like an easy DIY so I went ahead and ordered my supplies. As it turned out, it was one of the easiest and most fun DIYs that I did for our wedding. I completed the whole batch in about an hour!
DIY Feather Boutonniere
Step 1: Choose feathers and accent pieces in your colors. I used some berry garland too. I ordered most of my supplies from Etsy.
Step 2: Gather the pieces and arrange them exactly how you want them to look on your boutonniere.
Step 3: Using floral tape (or deco or twill tape) bind your feathers together at the base. Be sure they are all secure in the adhesive and will not slip out!
Step 4: You’re done. Just use a floral pin to pin your boutonniere to a piece of paper (this way you can also label who the different boutonnieres are for). Go get yourself a treat or have a fancy dinner with your fiancè because you just saved yourself a bundle!
Making our own feather and floral pieces was one of the easiest DIY’s we chose to do! I highly recommend it and it’s a project that can be done months in advance, which is always nice!
XO, elsie
PS. Thank you to 100 Layer Cake for letting me share this DIY on their blog too!! Fringe banner (above) by Nice on Etsy.

I think *any* diy projects that can be done well in advance are a definate bonus in the countdown to any important event - most wedding stuff can only be done in the last few days so it's good to have as few extra things as possible already done. Just so long as you don't forget that you've done them! ;) These feather 'boutonneires' are just lovely and perfect for your colourful feather-filled day :) Thanks for sharing!

I made all the boutonnieres for my wedding back in April too. It was the easiest and most fun DIY project I did for my wedding.

I really want a vintage diy wedding. I've been really looking at the details for some reason (even though we're not engaged yet) and this is just perfect!

Those are so cool! I'm only seventeen (and single at that!) but even though I won't be getting married for a while, I just might have to save this as an idea for when I do! :D
