Homemade Alfredo sauce is one of the easiest pasta sauces to make from scratch. Made from just five simple ingredients, this recipe is easy and one of those that is truly better homemade than from a jar. Plus, it’s easy! With only five basic ingredients, anyone can have success with this recipe.
I usually serve Alfredo sauce over fettuccine noodles, but it’s great with your favorite pasta as well. I also love this recipe as a pizza sauce!

Ingredients
- Butter – Unsalted butter.
- Heavy Cream
- Garlic – Fresh minced garlic.
- Italian Seasoning – Use store-bought or make your own.
- Parmesan Cheese – Grated Parmesan cheese.
- Salt & Black Pepper – To taste.
While some like to thicken sauce with cornstarch, I will sometimes add a tablespoon or two of plain Greek yogurt to this recipe. But it’s not necessary, just an option.
Directions
In a saucepan, melt butter and lightly sauté the minced garlic in the butter for 1-2 minutes.
Next, stir in the heavy whipping cream and Italian seasoning. Whisk so everything gets warm and well combined. Simmer on medium heat.
Then stir in the Parmesan cheese. Continue to stir until the cheese melts and the mixture becomes a sauce. Taste and season with salt and pepper to your liking.
Storage and Reheating Tips
This sauce is best when made and served immediately. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To reheat, add a splash of cream or milk to the leftovers and heat them on the stovetop at low heat.

Delish!! This made my entire family so happy for dinner tonight. I doubled the recipe and it was the perfect amount for 2 adults and 2 kids! I think I’ll leave out the Italian seasoning next time, it still tasted great with it but I prefer letting the parmesan and garlic shine when I make Alfredo. Printed this one out for my recipe binder and will be using it over and over!
I made this for a family dinner on the weekend. It was really delicious, which is most important. It also took about 5-10 minutes to make, which is another plus!
Such a treat!
Incredible! And SO easy!
So much better than buying the darn jar at the store. *chef’s kiss*
I love Alfredo and have never thought to make it from scratch! Looks so tasty!

Easy and delicious! This was my first time making alfredo sauce, and it was a total success. I served it on fettuccine with cut up chicken and it blew my family’s minds. I am so happy to find a new, quick dish that will be a regular for us. Thanks Emma!
I’ve been wanting to make my own alfredo sauce for ages, it really is better then jarred. Thanks!
So yummy!
Excited to try it. Your new Christmas recipe 😉
So delicious. I forgot how great Alfredo is!
This recipe comes together so fast and was delicious!
I made this recipe this weekend, and it’s great! The proportions are just right, and the italian seasoning makes a difference. ABM has a ton of great recipes, but I always check here first for a basic recipe, because odds are they have a version that’s great!
Looking so yummy and this is my favorite too.
Alfredo sauce has always seemed so intimidating but this recipe makes it enticing, even for a non-cook like myself. Looking forward to trying it!
This was so easy and delicious! Definitely will add it to our normal rotation of dinners. 🙂
