Hi, friends! You know I love changing up our living spaces, right? Today I’m excited to team up with Dutch Boy Paint to share a quick and colorful update that we did in our bedroom.
It’s amazing how much color can change the mood of a room, even with just one colorful wall!
Watch our video of the before/after process of this colorful update.
My point of inspiration for this update was this beautiful quilt. I love the colors and the painterly pattern.
The only problem was, with all these gorgeous colors in the quilt, what color should I paint the wall? Almost any color would match. So many choices!
We used Photoshop to make a rough visualization of how the room would look in different colors! The first photo is the before. The paint colors that we considered (but didn’t choose) are Bittersweet and Sour, Submarine, Medieval Blue, Girl Talk, and Brilliant Impression.
Ultimately we chose East Bay, because it’s a color both Jeremy and I love, and it really fits our personalities and style. And I have to admit that while I’m a fan of of the classic, metal paint cans, it’s hard not to love the convenience and ease of the Dutch Boy paint containers. Having a twist-off top and a grip on the side made opening, closing, and pouring the paint SUPER simple.
The result is a fresh, new space that feels comfortable.
The best part about this update was the time it took to complete, just two afternoons! Painting just one wall, rather than an entire room, is a great way to change up your space without an intense time commitment. For those of you who, like me, LOVE change, it’s a great solution.
Thanks so much for taking a peek at our bedroom update! xx- Elsie

I love the pop of paint! Where is your bedframe from? Or did you make it?
I love the adhesive foam idea! I’ll have to remember that for the future. 🙂
I love that quilt! I’m a actually in love with the dark teal that your wall appears to be in some of the final photos. Is there a name for that one or is it the same color as the video? It so much darker and richer and I would love to know the name of the one in those photos. Or is it darker because of lighting or photoshop?
I have this color all over my living room walls and I love it! Such a fresh, fun pop of color.
I’m painting this week and seeing how the mood of the room changed with each of the colors you were experimenting with made me so excited about my switch!
Warm Regards,
Alexandra

The new site design is cute but i really miss the continuous scrolling aspect of the last design! when each post brings me to a separate page to read the whole thing, I am less likely to go back to the original page and continue reading. I have noticed this with other sites in the past and sometimes its the only thing that keeps me from reading all the posts on a blog! I just thought you guys might potentially want that kind of input so I thought I would share 🙂 keep up the awesome work!
Okay feeling super inspired after this post! 🙂

Where did you get your bed frame?
I LOVE this color. Just gorgeous. Both vibrant and relaxing. Like a tropical getaway in your own home.
I love the color! I love the foam letters to give something extra to the wall behind the bed when you do not have a headboard! As a renter, do you think the foam sheets would come off of the wall easily with out ruining the paint when it is time to move?
I love the color! What did you make the LOVE on the wall out of? I do not have a headboard and that looks like a great alternative to add a little something visually over the bed!
Elsie, you don’t have a headboard. Isn’t it tricky to, you know, not hit your head with the giant iron bar I see behind the cushions?
this looks pretty great. we have one of the room and board parsons bed frames, the lower ones not the canopy, and it’s pretty hard to figure out how to feminize it. ha.
Such a gorgeous color! I adore it! I really am loving that chartreuse color that was one of the options. All these beautiful colors make me so excited to OWN my home so I can finally paint a room a fun color and paint polka dots in my bathroom.

Hey Ashley,
I actually painted over it last year when we finished photographing our home book. I was just ready to change things up at the time. I do miss it, though! A little.
