Fashion Mixology: 8 Outfits from 8 Pieces

Hi friends! It's time for a brand new round of Fashion Mixology styled by Emma! The concept is simply this... We take 8 pieces of clothing and make 8 different looks with those pieces. Shoes and accessories don't count. The goal of this feature is to inspire confidence and ideas to stretch your wardrobe farther!  

Who doesn't love a statement piece that's super easy to wear? This printed maxi skirt goes a long way when paired with other neutral pieces. 

Have you tried a belt over an untucked top? We love this easy styling! 

In the winter we love finding new ways to wear our sleeveless dresses. One of our favorites is by layering a top underneath and wearing it with warm tights. It's like an instant long sleeve dress!  

Wearing a dress as a top (or a skirt) is a secret we love for stretching cute dresses farther! You wouldn't have guessed it's a dress under there, would you?  

Rain boots and cute tights make any outfit instantly casual! This is the perfect styling for a rainy shopping day with friends.  

Try layering your blouses under fitted sweaters with jeans. We love this super easy outfit!  

One styling trick we love is adding one quirky detail to an outfit. These stripe socks with flats make us smile! 

Don't forget that you can wear a long skirt as a dress. Just fold the elastic band under (inside) and add a cute belt!

We're so excited to share a new round of Fashion Mixology with you today! The concept is simply this... We take 8 pieces of clothing and make 8 different looks with those pieces. Shoes and accessories don't count. The goal of this feature is to inspire confidence and ideas to stretch your wardrobe farther! Here are links to Round One + Round Two as well. For this first look I wore a bomber jacket over a lace maxi dress. This is my favorite way to make a special dress feel more casual! 

Don't be afraid to tie your top. This is one 90s trend that I don't mind one bit! 

Next, try mixing up a mini dress with a cardigan and cute cluth. This is one of my favorite casual spring stylings! 

Dress up a simple vintage dress with a D.I.Y. Bow Tie! 

The second way I love wearing my high waisted jeans is with a pretty top, tucked in. Layers of necklaces add fun details to this look.

Try layering a lace top over a dress and adding a belt for a cozy vintage styling! 

Another fun way to wear a sleeveless maxi dress in the winter is with a top layered under it. I like this look because it's easy to wear and casual. Hooray for eight new looks!

3 Ways To Dress Up a Winter Coat!

I don't know about you, but in Missouri it's already jacket weather most days. Winter seems to last forever here in the Midwest, so Emma and I put together three fun ways to dress up a winter coat! With these tips you can add cute details and "spice up" your winter coat throughout the cold weather season. We used this yellow coat c/o Francesca's Collections. It's adorable and warm, while still lightweight. See the above photo for a look at the coat before any accessories are added.

Tip 1: Tie a silk scarf around the collar of your coat. You can keep a small stash of scarves that coordinate with your coat in your closet and wear different ones for different occasions!

Tip 2: Don't forget vintage brooches. I love collecting these enamel brooches! They are perfect for a winter coat because they can be heavy and a coat is durable enough to support them. They're so cute and add the perfect bit of vintage to a winter outfit!

Tip 3: Add a bow tie. You can add any clip on bow tie to a winter coat. I made this bow myself using this method! If you don't have one, try making one with velvet ribbon for a super cute nod to the 1960s!

Hi there! It's time for another round of Fashion Mixology (view round 1 here). The concept is simply this... We take 8 pieces of clothing and make 8 different looks with those pieces. Shoes and accessories don't count as pieces, only dresses, pants and tops! The goal of this feature is to inspire confidence and ideas to stretch your wardrobe farther. 

This round, we worked with American Apparel! We chose a white lace dress, peachy chiffon button-up, a skirt and chiffon tank from AA along with four pieces from our own closet. Here are eight outfits from eight pieces of clothing... enjoy!

Layering is a great way to strech a wardrobe. In this look we layered a lace dress under a pleated vintage skirt! 

Long necklaces are one of Emma's favorite accessories! In this look she used them to add detail to her pretty look. 

Did you know you can wear a midi or maxi length skirt as a dress? Just add a belt. This works great with skirts that have stretchy waist bands! 

If you've wondered how to wear chiffon, we love layering it over dresses, tank tops and bralettes. The layered look that Emma is wearing here is super cute with high waisted pants! 

Throwing a schoolboy blazer on over a cute belted dress is the perfect way to create a put together look with minimal pieces! 

Tie an oversized top over a dress to create a fitted waist! I love this look... so effortless! 

Don't be afraid to untuck your blouse with a layered outfit. Messy details can make a look that much more interesting! 

Add a big belt to your layered look and no one will suspect you're wearing a dress under your skirt!
